Hop Leaf

UPtown/Andersonville continues to draw in more neighbors.  Hop Leaf, located at  5148 North Clark Street  Chicago, IL 60640
(773) 334-9851, is one of those draws.  Known best for the insane amount of brews and delightful appetizers.  I recommend the surprisingly tasty sausage plate $12 and the potato croquettes $9 appetizers.

They recently opened a new modern side just south of the tride and true location, they are connected through the back section of the restaurant. What I do find odd about this is, the menu is exactly the same, very limited.  It seems that they do not believe in specials to get you in the door, not even a drink special.

What I dislike about the Hop Leaf, on 2 recent and separate week visits, the service is poor and the food is pricey.  There seems to be a disconnect with customers, they aren't overly friendly (not even the host/hostess'), and they do not really pay attention and listen.  Example:  I was drinking a green line and my friend had an allagash.  I wanted another, but my friend said he was fine.  She brought us Both drinks. Brought them both over, just left them on the table instead of actually giving them to us personally turned and left, and I am pretty sure it is because she wasn't paying attention and forgot which one I ordered.  We did not complain.  The 'bus boy,' who provides us with water and service, was and knows he is actually the friendliest at the place.  We should have directly tipped him.

This is a Tavern setting and You must be 21 years old or over with valid ID to enter. Children, including infants, will not be admitted.  So, if you need an escape from the kids, tell them you are sorry and blame it on Hop Leaf's policy.  They can go when they are 21.
