Neighborhood Overview

In the early 1830's, Hoosier Grove was inhabitated by farmers.  It was scarcely populated and was mainly used for agricultural purposes.  Up until the 1950's, the population only reached to about 800 people.  After the first world war, development company L&H Developers built new and inexpensive homes, molding the area into a suburban community.  By 1957, Streamwood was offically incorporated as a town.  Streamwood continues to grow and develop into both a commercial and residential community. 

The Great Outdoors

The Park District is characterized with neighborhood parks, which are offering party rentals, fitness center, athletic leagues and aquatic centers that will keep your attention for a long time. The trails of Streamwood are great attraction for the runners and joggers because every year, the town hosts both the Justin’s 5K Run/Walk and Streamwood Stride Race and Fun Run. This is great because you will be able to spend a lot of time with your neighbors and you will exercise and have a very good health condition.

Local Flavor

Streamwood is slowly becoming a destination spot for new and hip restaurants.  Streamwood has dishes for any and all palates.  Sakuma's Restaurant and Sushi Bar offers sushi and other Japanese delights.  On Saturday nights, you can go in and enjoy the unlimited sake and sushi deal they offer.  For those who are looking for some food for the soul, visit Priscilla's Ultimate Soulfood Cafeteria.  From fried chicken or catfish, pork chops and mac 'n cheese, this neighborhood tradition will fill anyone's belly up and put a smile on their face.  To experience Chicago's legendary pizzas, come in and order a pie at Giordano's Pizzeria.

Streamwood offers a wide variety of shopping options for the shopaholics and the fashionistas.  Local malls such as Spring Hill Mall and Stratford Square offer many stores to choose from.  They include national megastores such as Bloomingdale's, Burlington Coat Factory, JC Penny's and Carson's.  With choices like these, shoppers can find whatever they are looking for.

Transportation

The transportation includes access to Pace, Metra, and other public transportation. The Metra stations offer parking for a daily cost of $1 or you can use the monthly permit parking from the city hall. There are train stations too. The Milwaukee District West Line is able to provide a fast and convenient commute to travel from Chicago to the Northwest suburbs. The Airways Shuttle Taxi, American Luxury Cab and American Taxi provide transportation to the suburbs and O'Hare International Airport, located 25 miles from Streamwood.
